One of my favorite photographs from Avery Danziger’s collection of pictures documenting the decay of Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY.
I first saw this picture hanging in Big W, a BBQ spot just down the street from the Harlem Valley Wingdale Metro North Station only 20 minutes from our farm. Warren, the owner-pit master there told me about Avery’s project documenting the space. After reaching out to Avery, he was kind enough to invite me to his studio to see other pieces and share stories of the experience.
To now have an original, limited edition photograph and others from the collection on display in our tasting room is something very special and meaningful.
Behind all of the asbestos and decay, is a hauntingly beautiful staff cafeteria.
Avery’s work on display at the Tasting Room come from two collections; one documenting the abandoned Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in a state of decay, and the other a series of kodachrome images taken in Venice Beach, CA in the late 60s and early 80s.
