First Tapping: Ready to Drum

This Friday, June 14th we will be tapping the first keg of Ready to Drum.

Ready to Drum is a blend of farmhouse ales brewed with rye and buckwheat, both fermented in stainless steel and transferred to mature in wine barrels until being blended back into a stainless steel tank with 300 lb of blueberries.

The fruit for this beer comes from our kind and talented friends at Botanist and Barrel in Cedar Grove, NC. On their farm they practice dry farming, a method of growing fruit without any irrigation, chemicals or other additives. The result is an intensely flavored berry, all of which are hand picked for this beer.

In September of 2018 Lyndon and company trekked up to our from with the 300 lb of their NC blueberries and an emptied blueberry cider barrel in tow. After a weekend of picking hops, farm talk, fermentation and life they made their way back to NC with two wine barrels that had previously held some of our beer.  Some 9 months later, we are thrilled to have this beer ready for your enjoyment and in time to bring down to South Carolina where we will see Lyndon and the rest of the crew at Birds Fly South’s Funk Collective festival.

This beer is a dry 6.9%, with serious waves of blueberry, a hint of minerality and a satisfyingly low level of acidity.

The name is inspired by the poem Blueberries, by Robert Frost.

Blueberries as big as the end of your thumb,
Real sky-blue, and heavy, and ready to drum
In the cavernous pail of the first one to come!

Bottles will be released in the near future. Stay tuned for details.
